Manheim Diner

The third stop on our tour was the Manheim Diner, located off Route 61 in Schuylkill Haven. Bryan ordered the “Side Show Bob”  egg omelette which consisted of cheese, bacon, sausage, and ham. Matt ordered the two-eggs, homefries and toast platter. Mike had the Eggs Benedict with onions over his homefries, and Tonto had the Greek omelette which consisted of feta cheese, black olives, and spinach. We had a fifth guest today, Kevin, who ordered the mushroom omelette.

Establishment: 4/5 – Another diner with an old-school feel. Neon lights, red leather booths and an old-style decor made us feel like we were in the 1950s. This diner is very spacious and had a lot of seating. There was a decent sized crowd today as well.

Service: 2/5 – It took us 14 minutes to receive our food, but I am chalking that up to having an extra person in our party. Our waitress was courteous, however we found ourselves sitting with empty coffee mugs at one point. She did eventually refill our coffees, but it took quite a long time.

Appearance: 2/5 – The food looked excellent and the plates were a decent size. However, Matt was not impressed when he noticed that his coffee mug had stains and a piece of food stuck to the side of it. He claims it was there before he received his food so that cost them a couple of points in this category.
IMG_0036Taste: 3/5 – Bryan and Tonto thought their omelettes were good but not great. It’s hard to screw up an omelette unless you burn the crap out of it. Everything was cooked well – nothing overcooked or undercooked. The Eggs Benedict was good as well. The bread they used for the toast was very good and different from the other restaurants we visited.

Price: 2/5 – The prices were a little more expensive than the Pottsville Diner. If you wanted a side order of meat (bacon, sausage, etc.), you would have to pay close to $4 extra. Matt almost spit coffee out of his nose when he read that. We all thought that was a little pricey.

All in all, the Manheim Diner was a good experience. Nothing great, nothing bad, just good. Mike loved that they had Eggs Benedict on the menu, considering the first two places we visited did not. The fact that they serve breakfast all day is also a plus. Our fifth wheel today, Kevin, also enjoyed his meal. You can tell he is not used to diner food because he visited their bathroom on the way out the door! We will definitely come back to the Manheim Diner to try more items down the road.
