Lewie’s

“Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright, The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light…”

Lewie’s restaurant is located on South Lehigh Avenue in Frackville. If you are a breakfast fan, you really need to check this place out. It is home to the “Everything Omelette”, which Tonto attempted to conquer today. This monstrosity consists of six eggs, ham, sausage, bacon, peppers, onions, mushrooms, cheese, tomatoes, scrapple, and homefries that are served inside of the omelette. Legend has it that Tonto already conquered the Everything Omelette twice. We’ll see if he can do that again today…

The rest of the crew decided not to try the artery-clogging feat. Bryan ordered the “Benny” which is simply Eggs Benedict with homefries. Matt ordered the two eggs with sausage and homefries, and Mike ordered the S.O.S. (creamed chipped beef on rye toast). We also had a special guest today, T-Bone, who ordered the egg and cheese omelette with hash browns.

Establishment: 2/5 – Lewie’s is not a very large restaurant, but they have enough space to fit 6 booths and at least 6-7 tables. They also have plenty of seats at the diner counter. Parking could potentially be an issue on the street, but we found a spot easily today. They did not have enough menus for our group of five, which cost them some points. As you can see by the pictures, they are very simplistic when it comes to advertising specials. If you are looking for a fancy restaurant, this is not the place for you.

Service: 4/5 – Our waitress was satisfactory and made sure we had enough coffee. We were pleased when she left the entire carafe at our table so we can refill on our own. It took us 14 minutes to receive our food, but keep in mind we had five people in our group and Tonto ordered the largest possible item on their menu. Our waitress did not provide a defibrillator for Tonto.

Appearance: 3/5 – Food looked good and the plates were a decent size. The coffee mugs were rather small and resembled the ones from last week at Steve & Mary’s.

Taste: 4/5 – Everything was delicious. The only complaint was that the hash browns that came with T-Bone’s meal were a little overcooked.

Price: 4/5 – When a restaurant uses cardboard boxes for signs, chances are their prices are cheap. This rings true at Lewie’s. The only downside is that they are a cash-only restaurant, so leave your credit card at home.

Lewie’s is a little-known restaurant that we would recommend to anyone looking for a good breakfast. It’s not the prettiest, but so far, they rank high on our list of establishments.

So, did the Mighty Tonto vanquish the Everything Omelette? Take a look for yourself!

The “Everything Omelette” after Tonto’s attempt.

As you can see, Tonto failed miserably in his attempt. In fact, he barely finished half. In the end, we were all disappointed, no more so than Tonto himself. He sullenly hobbled to the counter and had to pay for the rest of our meals. Will he attempt the challenge again? Only time will tell.

“And somewhere men are laughing, and little children shout; But there is no joy in Frackville — mighty Tonto has struck out.”
