Mazloom’s

“The Best Breakfast in New Philadelphia”

Mazloom’s Bar & Restaurant was the winner of our inaugural “Choose Our Location” fan poll. It is located on Valley Street in New Philadelphia. Our crew today consisted of Bryan, Mike and Tonto. Matt once again bailed on us. Maybe we should conduct a poll on whether or not he should still be a member of our group? Just kidding…kinda.

We arrived at 8:30am and noticed the sign in front of their bar that read “Mazloom’s Kegs & Eggs”. This immediately piqued our interest. As soon as we entered, we noticed the stale, smoky smell that resembled an ashtray. Yes, this is a smoking establishment. Mazloom’s breakfast menu was larger than we expected going in. Bryan ordered the Cheesesteak Omelette which consisted of eggs, diced steak (the frozen kind) and cheese. Mike went with the “Breakfast Sub”, which was simply eggs, bacon and Cooper cheese on a hoagie roll. Tonto ordered the Sausage Omelette with Cooper cheese. Both Bryan and Tonto’s omelettes came with hashbrowns.

Establishment: 2/5 – If you are affected by cigarette smoke, I wouldn’t recommend coming here. There is not a lot of seating in the dining area. With that said, we enjoyed all of their sports memorabilia on the walls. They had a lottery ticket machine and their own coffee machine, which we used to serve our own coffee. This was different than the other restaurants we previously visited. They also have two pool tables, if you are into that.

Service: 4/5 – It appeared that there was only one staff member on the clock this morning who worked as bartender/waitress/cook. She did a very good job juggling all three. We didn’t mind waiting 21-minutes for our food considering she was doing triple-duty. Keep in mind, we waited 22-minutes at Buddy’s last week and they were completely staffed. Considering we were at a bar, we decided to order Bloody Mary’s. As soon as we ordered, one of the local patrons overheard us and warned us to reconsider. The waitress/bartender agreed, confessing that she did not know how to make Bloody Mary’s. Needless to say, this cost them a point in this category.

Appearance: 2/5 – Our food wasn’t the most appealing, but it was certainly edible. They gained some points from their very large styrofoam coffee cups. These were by far the largest we’ve encountered so far.

Taste: 3/5 – Our food wasn’t bad. Bryan thought his omelette was a little dry. Their hashbrowns were also the frozen kind, not freshly cut. Other than that, there really wasn’t any complaints. We weren’t expecting much coming in…it’s bar food afterall.

Price: 4/5 – Everything came cheap. Our bill was only $23 for the three of us. Not bad at all! We only had to pay $1.35 for a very large cup of coffee…and that’s with free refills! The only negative here is that this is a cash-only establishment. No worries though, as they have an ATM located on the premises.

Overall, Mazloom’s exceeded our expectations. Is this the best breakfast spot in the County? In a word, no. But if you don’t mind the smoke, and are looking to tie one on during the day, this is the place for you. Their breakfast could provide you with a good base before hitting the sauce. In fact, we decided to start our day with a quality adult beverage ourselves!
