Robin’s Diner is a breakfast-lunch only restaurant located off Route 61 (North) in Schuylkill Haven. They just reopened three weeks ago after a tire severely damaged their building. Bryan, Mike, Tonto and special guest, Bill, made the trip this morning. Matt could not make it once again.

Bryan ordered the “Western Omelette”, which consisted of eggs, cheese, ham, onions and green peppers. It was served with toast and homefries. Mike ordered the “Breakfast Mess”, which is ironically the same name of a meal at Josie’s Place, which is right down the road. The Mess is a jumble of eggs, potatoes, onions, mushrooms, peppers and cheese. The Mighty Tonto decided to go with one of today’s specials, the “Scrapple, Eggs & Homefries” meal. This special gives you a piece of scrapple, two eggs (Tonto ordered over-easy), homefries, toast and coffee for only $6. Our guest today, Bill, proved to be a simple, straightforward patron. He ordered the two-eggs and meat meal (scrambled with bacon), along with a glass of orange juice.

Establishment: 2/5 – Okay,  I’m going to give Robin’s a little credit here. Their diner was severely damaged back in July and they were able to successfully repair and replace everything in just two months. Kudos to them. But let’s be honest, this place is nothing to sneeze at. It’s very easy to drive by Robin’s Diner and not even know it’s there. It’s attached to a garage, and that’s exactly what you would think this place was. The interior is extremely small. We had people rubbing up against us as they were leaving. It was a bit uncomfortable at times. We did enjoy the funny signs and sayings on their wall, though. Again, you cannot tell that any damage occurred to the restaurant. They did a great job with everything, so we decided to give them a couple of points in this category.

Service: 3/5 – It only took us 10-minutes from the time we ordered until we received our food. Our waitress was very nice and checked up on us regularly. A couple of points were deducted here because Bryan received wheat toast when he actually ordered raisin.

Appearance: 4/5 – Our portions were just right. Everything looked hot and appetizing. Our coffee cups were a tad on the smaller side, but it didn’t really matter since we had free refills.

Taste: 5/5 – Excellent. Everything was homemade and fresh. The homefries were freshly diced and Bill’s bacon was cooked perfectly. Tonto enjoyed the scrapple, noting that it was thin and crispy, which is how he likes it. Mike’s “Mess” was anything but a mess…it was a medley of veggie bliss. Bryan’s omelette was extremely cheesy and tasty. The ham they used inside the omelette was the thinner kind, but it didn’t take away from the taste. All of our meals were great…no complaints here!

Price: 5/5 – Robin’s Diner is pretty cheap. Our bill was only $28 for the four of us. After eating their food, you’d think it would be a lot pricier. It is a cash-only joint though, which seems to be a common theme for the diner-type establishments in our area.

Robin’s Diner serves an amazing breakfast for a very cheap price. The restaurant itself isn’t the best, but these “hidden gems” are usually where you’ll find the best food. We urge you not to judge this book by it’s cover! They are open weekdays from 6AM-2PM, Saturdays from 6AM-12PM, and are closed on Sundays.
