Today, our crew dined at Myrtle May’s Cafe, which is a breakfast-lunch only restaurant located on Sunbury Street in Minersville. Bryan, Matt, Mike and special guest, Ellen, were welcomed into the restaurant by a cross that read “He is Risen”. There is definitely a religious ambiance to this restaurant.
Bryan ordered the “Breakfast Griller Sandwich”, which is scrambled eggs, cheese, choice of meat (he chose sausage), on your choice of bread (wheat) with homefries. Matt ordered the “Two Eggs with Breakfast Meat”, which needs no description. He ended up choosing a sausage patty as his meat and ordered his eggs scrambled. Mike went with the “Eggs Benedict”. In case you aren’t privy to breakfast meals, an Eggs Benedict consists of poached eggs on an English muffin with Canadian bacon topped with hollandaise sauce. Our special guest, Ellen, ordered the “Banana Berry French Toast”, which consists of two slices of Texas French Toast topped with glazed strawberries, sliced bananas and whipped cream.

Establishment: 4/5 – Medium-sized restaurant. Not too big, not too small. There could potentially be parking issues out front depending on the day and time you decide to eat here. The interior of the restaurant was well lit. They have a decent amount of tables and booths for seating. There are also seats at the diner counter. The walls had multiple bible verses painted on them. I feel like I just got back from Sunday Mass.

Service: 3/5 – We were seated immediately, but they were somewhat lacking on the coffee refills. We also had a longer-than-average wait time of 19-minutes until we received our food. Our waitress was very friendly, though, so there’s that…
Appearance: 3/5 – Ellen’s French Toast looked the best out of all of our meals. Matt’s “scrambled” eggs looked more like a flat omelette. Not too impressive here, but then again, it’s got to be hard to follow Mountain Valley’s impressive display from last week.
Taste: 5/5 – Very good. All of our meals were delicious. Ellen noticed that the outer edges of her French Toast were cool, but the center was warm. Our homefries were freshly cut potatoes that had the perfect amount of “crisp” to them. Matt’s sausage looked to be of the frozen variety, but he thought it tasted fine. Mike enjoyed his Eggs Benedict and thought it was better than the one he ordered at the Manheim Diner.
Price: 2/5 – Not as cheap as Steve & Mary’s from down the street. Our bill ended up to be roughly $35 for the four of us. Check out the prices on the menu below:

Overall, Myrtle May’s is a quiet spot with a family atmosphere and good food. They are open every day from 6AM-2PM, except for Sundays when they open at 7. If we are comparing this with Steve & Mary’s down the street, we would give Steve & Mary’s the slight nod. We do recommend checking out Myrtle May’s if you are in search of a new restaurant to try.
