Pine View Acres Restaurant in East Norwegian Township held their weekly breakfast buffet this morning. Needless to say, our crew decided to check it out. Pine View Acres used to be a major wedding venue in the 1970’s and 80’s. Bryan, Matt and Mike all felt like they were left at the altar after the Mighty Tonto bailed on them at the last minute. Alas, the show must continue.
The breakfast buffet has a wide variety of items. Here is a list of all of the items that they serve at the buffet: scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, hash brown potatoes, pork & beef sausage, ham, bacon & turkey bacon, cream chipped beef, scrapple, corned beef hash, mackerel, bagels w/cream cheese, and assorted toasts, cookies and pastries. The drinks include coffee, milk, orange juice, cranberry juice, apple juice and tomato juice. There is also a station where you can order special items such as omelettes, pancakes, waffles, and over-easy eggs. All of this for just $7.50.

Establishment: 4/5 – Pine View Acres is a large restaurant that can host a wide variety of events. There is plenty of seating and parking outside. It doesn’t look as if its been remodeled much since the 70’s, but that is what gives the restaurant it’s charm.

Service: 3/5 – Although it is a buffet, there is a hostess that greets you at the door and a waitress that takes your drink order. Our waitress was a little curt and didn’t say much. There is also a worker (let’s dub him “The General”) who makes your omelettes, pancakes, eggs, or whatever special item you want to order. The General obviously takes his job seriously since he scolded a fellow customer for not writing his table number down on his order.

Appearance: 2/5 – Matt’s Western Omelette did not look appealing. Mike’s omelette did not look terrible, but some of the items on the buffet spread looked as though they had been sitting out since 1978.

Taste: 2/5 – Some items were good, some not so good. Bryan thought the scrambled eggs were cold and hard. The potatoes were also cold. This was not a good sign considering we arrived only 15 minutes after they opened. Matt enjoyed their French Toast and Mike thought the mackerel was decent, but could’ve used a little more salt. The bacon was a flop – literally – and seemed as though it had been microwaved. Both Matt and Mike thought their Western Omelettes were okay…nothing great.
Price: 5/5 – $7.50 for all of this food…not bad at all. This included unlimited servings and drinks.
All in all, Pine View Acres Restaurant was a bit disappointing when it came to food quality. The good thing about this place is that it’s an all-you-can-eat buffet which features many items, so you can pick and choose what you want to eat. They serve their breakfast buffet every Sunday from 8:30am – 12:30pm. Are there better buffets out there in Schuylkill county? I can almost guarantee it…it’s just a matter of finding them!
