This morning our crew visited the 419 Market Cafe & Eatery, which is located on East Market Street in Orwigsburg. What a unique place this turned out to be! Bryan and Mike were the first customers to arrive at 8:30 and were seated immediately in the “VIP Lounge”. Tonto showed up a little late and the owner dubbed him “The Latecomer”. Matt had a family gathering, so he could not make it this week. Once we were seated, the owner (who we think is the owner) took our coffee orders and offered us a shawl in case we were cold. Talk about hospitality!
They have a large selection of coffee at this place. We had the option of Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts brand, and Lavazza (which the owner referred to as Italy’s favorite coffee). We were a bit overwhelmed by the variety, so the three of us all chose the Starbucks espresso. As far as food goes, Bryan ordered his favorite breakfast sandwich combo – pork roll, egg, and cheese. You got to choose the type of meat, cheese (Bryan chose provolone), and bread (Kaiser). Mike ordered the “Veggie Omelette”, which consisted of eggs, cheese, tomato, onion, spinach and mushrooms. Tonto ended up getting the “Smoked Salmon Bagel”, which is smoked salmon, capers, onions, and cream cheese served on a bagel.
Establishment: 5/5 – When trying to describe the 419 Market Cafe, the word “quaint” comes to mind. This is a very unique eatery with many decorations located throughout. It feels like you are in a country crafts store. There seems to be a decent amount of seating in a variety of rooms, including upstairs and outside. As far as the exterior goes, it doesn’t really stick out. You can drive right by and not even notice it if it wasn’t for a banner that read “CAFE” on the side of the road. Parking is on the street.
Service: 4.5/5 – We were seated right away and were served our coffee in very large travel cups, so refills weren’t needed. It took us 19-minutes from the time we ordered until we received our food. Checkout was at the counter and that took a little long, so we deducted a half of a point. Other than that, the service was spot-on. What other place offers you a blanket if you are cold?
Appearance: 3/5 – Food looked good – the only thing that threw us off was the plastic silverware and plates. We don’t mind the plastic at all, but it just seems to take away from the “fanciness” that this place emanates.
Taste: 5/5 – Everything from the coffee to the food was very good. The quality of food is top-notch for this area. Mike liked the small cherry tomatoes that were in his omelette. Bryan thought his pork roll sandwich tasted almost as good as the ones he orders in New Jersey, where pork roll is more common. Tonto finished his entire meal today! The salmon mixed with the capers and cream cheese were a great combination. It was a nice change-of-pace breakfast.
Price: 2/5 – Prices were a little more expensive, but that’s okay. The food definitely makes up for the prices!

The 419 Market Cafe & Eatery definitely exceeded our expectations! This place stands out because of it’s unique atmosphere. If you are looking for a new place to try for breakfast, we highly recommend this eatery. We are hoping to make another trip here when the weather is warmer so we can eat on their outside deck. They are open from 8:30am – 2:00pm.
