Happy’s Diner

“Happiness is best served with a side of bacon.” – Breakfast in the Skook crew

Happy’s Diner is a small establishment located on Lizard Creek Road, off the West Penn Pike in Andreas. We had a full crew today, with Bryan, Matt, Mike and Tonto all able to make it. Tonto was even sporting his new bacon and eggs breakfast socks! The picture is at the bottom of this blog.

We arrived at this cozy, log-cabin-looking restaurant a little after 9:00 a.m. We were blown away by the size of their breakfast menu. This may be the most extensive menu we’ve come across so far.

Bryan ended up ordering the Banana Nut Pancakes with a side of pork roll. The pancakes were filled with bananas and pecans. Matt ordered his usual: the two-eggs, homefries, and your choice of meat. Do I even need to mention that he chose sausage? Mike decided to be different and went with the Crab Benedict. This included two poached eggs with seared crabmeat, served over an open English muffin, topped with Hollandaise sauce. This was also served with a side of homefries. The Mighty Tonto settled on “Melissa’s French Toast”, which is three layers of French Toast stuffed with bananas, nuts, and sweet cream cheese. He also ordered a side of pork roll.

Establishment: 5/5 – Neat little restaurant with a homey feel to it. There is plenty of parking, so you don’t have to worry about that. The exterior resembles a small log cabin of sorts. There seemed to be enough seating inside, with two connecting dining rooms that included a mix of tables and booths. They have a counter near the entrance where you pay for your meal.

Service: 5/5 – Our waitress was very efficient. She frequently refilled our coffees and asked if we needed anything. It only took us 11-minutes to receive our food once we ordered.

Appearance: 4/5 – Our meals looked amazing once they were served. Bryan’s pancakes were large, as well as Tonto’s French Toast slices. Mike’s Crab Benedict also looked (and smelled) really appetizing. The sausage links that were served with Matt’s meal were large and looked fresh. One point was deducted because of the small size of their coffee mugs. Tonto said that it felt like he was drinking out of a shot glass, even though he insisted that size doesn’t matter.

Taste: 4.5/5 – Very good! We all enjoyed our meals and left full. Mike enjoyed his crabmeat and thought it was cooked well. Bryan’s Banana Nut Pancakes were hot and fluffy with the right amount of bananas and pecans. Tonto also enjoyed his stuffed French Toast. Matt gave the sausage two thumbs up, which is a pretty big deal coming from the connoisseur.  Both Bryan and Tonto enjoyed their pork roll, which was a nice change-of-pace from the usual sausage or bacon side. The homefries were freshly cut, however Mike thought his could’ve been a little hotter.

Price: 5/5 – Not too shabby! Only $36 for the four meals, one of which included crabmeat. You definitely get good value at Happy’s!

Happy’s Diner exceeded our expectations. They have something for every appetite, and a menu that seems never-ending. If you want to try a new place for breakfast and enjoy hearty meals for a cheap price, we recommend trying out Happy’s Diner in Andreas! We definitely left happy!
