Bryan, Mike and Kevin took the rainy drive to Orwigsburg this morning and dined at the elegant Inn of Orwigsburg. Bryan and Mike decided to bring their loved ones, Ellen and Lynda, to join in on this Valentine’s Day weekend. Matt was spending the weekend in Florida while The Mighty Tonto was busy at work. Kevin tried to give his phone number to our waitress since his date couldn’t make it, but he was shut down.
As you can see by the menu below, the Inn of Orwigsburg has a decent-sized breakfast menu considering they only serve it once a week. Bryan wanted to try the crepes with fresh fruit since it was something we haven’t seen on other breakfast menus thus far. He also ordered a side of bacon. Mike went with the “Oscar Omelette”, which was composed of three eggs, asparagus, cheese, crab and Hollandaise sauce. It was served with homefries and toast. Kevin ordered the usual mushroom and cheese omelette with homefries. It was the “Bananas Foster” for Ellen, which was three pieces of French Toast topped with caramelized bananas. Lynda decided to order the bacon and cheese omelette with homefries. As for drinks, Lynda ordered a mimosa, Kevin tried their hot chocolate, and Mike purchased their Bloody Mary.
Establishment: 5/5 – This was probably the most upscale restaurant we’ve had breakfast in so far on our tour. The brick building sits at the corner of Market and Liberty streets in the quaint downtown of Orwigsburg. The interior was dimly lit and was somewhat fancy. They have pictures on the wall of the town in the early 1900’s, along with a plethora of other decorations. It has a very comfortable atmosphere.
Service: 5/5 – Very quick service. It only took 10-minutes to receive our food. Our waitress was very nice and provided our table with a coffee carafe for refills. She frequently checked how we were doing and if we needed anything.
Appearance: 5/5 – Our food looked absolutely amazing! Large portions of food that fit the part of a fancy restaurant. Bryan and Ellen both received five large pieces of bacon with their meal – which was very filling! Even Lynda’s mimosa and Kevin’s hot chocolate were picture worthy!
Taste: 5/5 – Very good! The bacon was cooked to perfection while the homefries were fresh and hot. Mike, Kevin and Lynda all enjoyed their omelettes while Ellen said her Bananas Foster was the best breakfast she’s had in a while! Mike noted that they used real crab meat in his Oscar Omelette. Bryan savored his crepes and did not regret his decision to order them. They were cooked perfectly and the cream tasted like liquefied cheese cake. All of the fruit served on top of the crepes tasted fresh.
Price: 2/5 – A little more on the expensive side, but it was worth it. $3.25 for a side of meat is a bit steep when you compare it to other breakfast joints in the area, but you do receive a large amount for the price. The quality of food here certainly makes up for the few extra shekels you will spend. Mike and Lynda ended up paying for our meal anyway, so it all worked out!
Bloody Mary: 3/5 – About average as far as Bloody Marys go. Mike thought it was somewhat similar to the one he had at Mountain Valley. It wasn’t as good as the Crimson House Bloody Mary, and not as bad as the Beacon’s.
Overall, the Inn of Orwigsburg passed with flying colors. They have great food that is served in a cozy atmosphere. They only serve breakfast on Sundays though, so you’ll have to plan accordingly. We highly recommend you check this place out the next time you feel like splurging on a quality breakfast with a loved one or family member!
