“The one who keeps the law is a son with understanding, but a companion of gluttons shames his father.” – Proverbs 28:7

Six dollars for an all-you-can-eat buffet? Sign us up! The Immaculate Conception Hall in Saint Clair held their monthly breakfast buffet this morning to benefit the Saint Clare of Assisi Parish. We were there to exhibit the sin of gluttony. Our crew consisted of Bryan, Matt, Mike and Kevin. The four of us were forced to do the dishes since it was Tonto’s turn to pay and he decided to leave us stranded in the cold. Oh well, maybe next week.

As far as food goes, the Immaculate Conception Hall serves up a buffet that consists of eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, homefries, pancakes (mint chocolate chip) and toast. They also have drinks such as coffee, orange juice, tomato juice, milk and hot tea. It may not be the most extensive buffet, but it includes all of your breakfast staples.

Establishment: 3/5 – Not the biggest social hall around, but it has a decent amount of seating. Parking really isn’t an issue since you can utilize the church’s two lots in the back. There is a table near the entrance where you pay. They have take-out boxes that you can use if you do not want to stay and eat, which is a nice option.

Service: 5/5 – This is a serve-yourself buffet so there really isn’t much service. The friendly staff did frequently refill the food items when they were running low. This is important because some buffets let their food sit out too long. The staff here at IC made sure everything stayed fresh. There seemed to be a good amount of volunteers working this morning.

Appearance: 3/5 – The food didn’t look bad at all. Everything was served in crockpots to ensure the food stayed hot.

Taste: 4/5 – Pretty good for a buffet. The eggs were fresh and not hard or slimy like some you can get at a buffet. Their sausage had a nice taste to it and their bacon was cooked perfectly. Bryan really enjoyed their homefries, which you can tell were freshly cut potatoes and not the frozen kind. The only downside was their coffee, which was a little weak.

Price: 5/5 – We had to pay $6 a person for all-you-can-eat. Need I say more? Note: We would have paid $0 had Tonto showed up to pay for us like he was supposed to!

Overall, we were pleased with the breakfast served at the Immaculate Conception Hall. When we compare it to the other buffet we’ve tried at Pine View Acres, we feel that today’s food exceeded it in quality and overall taste. The only thing about Pine View Acres is that they have more food options. If we had to choose between the two, we’d go with the Immaculate Conception Hall 10 out of 10 times. Considering the price, quality, and the amount of food you get, you really cannot beat it. Their next breakfast buffet is Sunday, April 8 from 8 – 11:30 a.m. The price that week will be $7/adult. Still worth it!
