Washington Hotel

The Washington Hotel in Minersville recently began serving breakfast, which means Breakfast in the Skook needed to try it out ASAP. Our crew this morning only consisted of Bryan, Matt and Mike. We arrived at the restaurant at 8:10 a.m., which is an hour and ten minutes after they opened.

Their menu has just enough options for every appetite. If you are a fan of our blog, you should know what Matt ordered by now. He chose the two eggs (scrambled), with a side of sausage and homefries. On the menu, this was named the “Sunbury Street Special”. Mike ended up ordering the “Coal Miners Breakfast”, which was creamed chipped beef served over toast with homefries. He also ordered a side of bacon. Bryan went big today and ordered the “M-Ville Favorite”, which was an 8 ounce steak served with two eggs (Bryan chose over-easy), homefries and toast.

Establishment: 4.5/5 – Very nice restaurant on the inside. There are three dining rooms: one with a bar, one with more formal seating, and one room that offered a private dining experience. Matt was happy that Mike chose to sit in the romantic, dimly lit room. This particular room had a big fireplace that the staff could not light…oh well. We ended up taking off a half of a point because the parking on the street can be tricky during certain hours of the day.

Service: 5/5 – Our waitress was prompt and accommodating. She even complied with Matt’s request to ask the chef for the homefries recipe. It took us 19-minutes to receive our food after ordering, which isn’t bad considering Bryan ordered a steak.

Appearance: 5/5 – Everything was presented well. Our platters were even garnished with an orange slice. The food portions were somewhat large compared to other restaurants.

Taste: 4.5/5 – Everything tasted very good, except for the fact that the food could’ve been warmer. Mike’s chipped beef was thick and creamy while Bryan’s steak was cooked perfectly. The big winner of the day was their homefries! These were made (as per the chef) by deep frying red skin potatoes. They were cut very thin, like a potato chip, and were served with chopped caramelized onions that gave them a sweet taste. The three of us agreed that they could very well be the best homefries we’ve had!

Price: 4/5 – The prices weren’t bad at all. The three of our meals totaled $39, which is about average for a four-person meal, or a three-person meal when Bryan wants to be fancy and order a steak. His meal alone cost $12.95. The quality of food was higher than many other restaurants in the area.

We are very happy that the Washington Hotel decided to serve breakfast. A decently-priced meal with above-average food quality is what you can expect when you eat here. We highly recommend checking this place out if you’ve never eaten here before. Their breakfasts are served every Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to noon.
