Rainbow Hose

“There’s a first time for everything.”

Everybody remembers their first time. Well, we here at Breakfast in the Skook had ours this morning. For the first time since we started this blog, Bryan did not attend. That combined with Tonto working again left only Mike, Matt and Kevin to journey down to Schuylkill Haven to check out the Rainbow Hose Company’s breakfast.

The breakfast menu is typical. It has all of your breakfast staples. They do offer scrapple which we haven’t seen a lot of lately. Kevin ordered his specialty, the mushroom and cheese omelette. Mike had the #1, which was two eggs over-easy, homefries with onions, and rye toast; he went with the two meats (bacon and smoked sausage). Matt went with the same old….wait…NO HE DIDN’T!! He decided to change things up and order the #3 which is the French Toast, homefries, and choice of meat (fresh sausage). What a rebel!

Establishment: 2.5/5 – This is your typical fire company hall. There is parking and entry in the back. You walk through the bar to get to the seating area. There were about 8-10 tables that had seating for 8 each. There were also two booths, and people were sitting at the bar too. We arrived around 9:10 a.m. and it was probably a little more than half full. The tables on the side where we sat were close together. It was a little difficult to get in and out.

Service: 4/5 – The volunteers we interacted with were very friendly and personable. It takes a lot of volunteers to make a fundraiser like this work. When you choose your seat, you can go out in the bar area to get your drink (coffee, tea, hot chocolate). There is also ice water available. Those drinks are included in the price. We subtracted a point for the time it took to receive our food. The food is made to order, and we waited a tad more than 33-minutes to get ours.

Appearance: 3/5 – The food portions were about average. All of our food came out hot. The toast and sausages came out on little paper plates. Nothing fancy.

Taste: 3/5 – The food was good. Kevin enjoyed his omelette and even had some left over to take home. He also enjoyed the apple butter that you can get with your toast. The sausage king himself, Matt, thought the smoked sausage was better than the fresh. Mike liked the bacon and the smoked sausage and would get both again. We thought the coffee was really good and liked that we got to choose our own mug when getting drinks. Matt chose the biggest and fanciest one!

Price: 4.5/5 – If you’re an omelette lover, this is the place to go. $5.25 for a mushroom and cheese omelette with homefries, toast and unlimited hot drinks. That’s what you call a steal! Everything was reasonably priced and all the money goes to a good cause!

All in all, we enjoyed our trip this morning to Schuylkill Haven. The next breakfast at Rainbow Hose is April 22. They will be having breakfast once a month until October, then go back to serving it biweekly. Check out their schedule for the exact dates and go support a local firehouse! Also, check back next weekend to see if all five members of Breakfast in the Skook will be present at the same time. It’s been a while. We hope everyone has a great week and as always, thanks for reading!
