Valley View Gun Club

The Valley View Gun Club held their monthly all-you-can-eat breakfast this morning, so Breakfast in the Skook decided to give it a go. Today’s crew consisted of Bryan, Matt, Kevin, and Tonto, who was back after a long hiatus. The drive to Valley View was entertaining in itself. Matt was feeling under-the-weather from last night’s activities and needed Tonto to pull his car over so that he could make room for breakfast. After a couple of minutes on the side of the road, Matt hopped back in the vehicle and was ready to go.

We arrived at the Gun Club around 9:30 a.m. to a packed house. It was so crowded that we had to wait a while to sit down. The four of us were finally seated at the bar after a whopping 14-minute wait. From the all-you-can-eat menu, Bryan decided to order two over-easy eggs, bacon, scrapple, and homefries. Matt, who suddenly had an appetite again, went with scrambled eggs, smoked sausage, homefries, and one slice of French Toast. Kevin ended up ordering a mushroom and cheese omelette (shocker), bacon and homefries. He ended up ordering a second plate of French Toast, mackerel and bacon. He doesn’t fool around when it comes to breakfast! Tonto decided to go with scrambled eggs, fresh sausage, fried mackerel and homefries.

Establishment: 3/5 – The interior was very clean, but it was rather small. There were a lot of customers and not enough seating to accommodate everyone during the time we were there. They had community tables set up and also had seating at the bar.

Service: 2/5 – The staff and volunteers were very friendly and did a good job juggling all of their responsibilities, but we had to deduct some points for the amount of time we waited. 14-minutes to find a seat followed by 35-minutes to receive our food. Kevin’s second platter only took 10-minutes to come out, so that wasn’t bad. The coffee and tea were self-serve which was convenient. The cups were small and made of styrofoam. Matt, who was already having a rough morning, didn’t notice his cup had a hole in it when he poured the coffee. Needless to say, the workers were wiping up his mess! It wasn’t Matt’s fault…just bad luck I guess.

The coffee station is all clean after Matt’s spill!

Appearance: 4/5 – Our food came out hot and everything looked great. Minus a point for the styrofoam cups and plates.

Taste: 4.5/5 – Almost a perfect score! Our food was delicious and all four of us enjoyed our meals. Both the fresh and smoked sausage tasted very good. Their homefries were diced small and had a unique taste; Bryan and Matt really liked them. Bryan also enjoyed his scrapple and thought it was nice and crispy. Kevin and Tonto raved over the mackerel. They said it didn’t taste too salty or fishy. The toast, however, was soggy and more like bread, hence the half-point deduction.

Price: 5/5 – $10 for all-you-can-eat and drink! Not too shabby…

Overall, all four of us enjoyed our meals at the Valley View Gun Club. We wouldn’t recommend this place if you are in a hurry to get somewhere, but the food made it worth the wait. Their meats were top-notch and everything came out piping hot. If you love checking out all-you-can-eat breakfast spots, add this one to your list! They serve their breakfasts every second Sunday of the month from 6 a.m. – 11 a.m.
