The Amvets Post 180 in the Mount Hope section of Pottsville held their monthly breakfast buffet this morning. Our crew consisted of Bryan, Kevin, Matt and Mike. We arrived around 8:30 a.m. and there was a decent-sized crowd. By the time we left, the place was packed.
Like similar buffets, you pay the $9 entrance fee as you enter. The buffet here consists of scrambled eggs, homefries, bacon, sausage, ham, pancakes, toast, and S.O.S. There was a table that had fresh fruit and cookies for those with a sweet tooth. A lot of food variety! They also have a station where you can order your own customized omelettes, pancakes, waffles, or over-easy eggs. They have these menu slips that allow you to circle your desired items and ingredients. There are three volunteers who cook the food, and then they deliver the items to your table. All four of us ended up ordering omelettes.
Establishment: 5/5 – Lots of parking and seating. We were impressed by the size of the interior. This was definitely larger than the Clover and Immaculate Conception establishments. Everything was very clean; the workers did a great job.
Service: 5/5 – Everything seemed to run smoothly and was very efficient. The omelettes we ordered came out within 5-10 minutes. Excellent service here!
Appearance: 4/5 – All of the food was prepared well and looked great. There wasn’t anything that threw us off by its appearance.
Taste: 4/5 – Everything was very good. The food was hot and fresh. The only thing that could be a turnoff for some people is that the bacon wasn’t cooked crispy. This wasn’t an issue for us, though.
Price: 5/5 – $9 for all-you-can-eat. This isn’t bad at all! Plus, the food was delicious – you can’t beat it!
All in all, the Amvets breakfast buffet surpassed our expectations. The welcoming staff, great food and friendly atmosphere makes this place a must-visit on your breakfast list. The price is cheap for the amount of food you can receive here. Oh, and it’s all for a great cause! We will definitely be back! The Amvets Post 180 serves their breakfast buffets on the first Sunday of each month from 7 a.m. to noon.
