After a two-week hiatus, the crew was back for another breakfast review! This morning our destination was Birdy’s Bar & Grill in Orwigsburg. It is formerly known as Nadya’s, Madeline’s, and Rebecca’s. Our crew consisted of only Bryan, Mike and Tonto. Matt and Kevin both had more important obligations to attend to.
We arrived at Birdy’s at 8:30 a.m. and were the only customers there. That’s not a good sign. Their breakfast menu is a decent size and has something for just about anyone. They have breakfast specials that are served Monday-Friday only. Bryan ended up ordering the Eggs Benedict which was served with homefries. Mike went with the “Mel’s Omelette”, which consisted of eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, and American cheese. The Mighty Tonto ordered the Stuffed French Toast. This included two pieces of French Toast stuffed with sweet cream cheese and topped with whipped cream. He also ordered a side of corned beef hash. Who wouldn’t?
Establishment: 4/5 – Very large restaurant with ample parking. The interior was spacious and seats many guests. Then again, maybe it just seemed large because we were the only customers there? There is also room at the bar to sit and some outdoor patio seating when the weather permits. We took off a point because we noticed a faint musty smell inside the restaurant. It wasn’t too bad, but it was a little noticeable.
Service: 3/5 – Like I said, we were the only customers there. Yet, we still had to wait almost 10-minutes just for coffee refills. We eventually had to ask one of the two waitresses/hostesses. Both girls were very nice though. We also noticed that our tables did not have any jelly for toast, so we had to ask for that too. Our wait time for food was 23-minutes.
Appearance: 4/5 – Our food looked pretty good. Each platter consisted of a decent amount of food.
Taste: 3/5 – It wasn’t the best tasting breakfast we’ve had, but it wasn’t the worst. Tonto’s Stuffed French Toast was stuffed with a strawberry flavored cream cheese. The homefries were loaded with pepper, which overpowered the taste. Bryan’s Eggs Benedict was good, but it wasn’t the best he’s had. Mike wasn’t impressed with his omelette; he said “something just didn’t taste right.” We think this was the first time he failed to finish his meal.
Price: 3/5 – Average price. $29.60 for the three of us.
Birdy’s Bar & Grill in Orwigsburg didn’t impress us. They are more known for their lunch and dinners, so hopefully they are better than their breakfast. If you are looking for a breakfast spot in the Orwigsburg area, we would suggest going to 419 Market or the Inn of Orwigsburg down the street. Birdy’s just didn’t do it for us this morning. Maybe next time would be different?
