“At night in the cornfield, if you listen you can hear the corn grow.” – Waitress
Bryan, Matt and Mike took the long, scenic drive through the countryside to Klingerstown this morning. Our destination: Pine Creek Cafe. This little restaurant sits on the very edge of Schuylkill County and was our farthest trip yet. We didn’t know what to expect during our car ride there. Passing horse and buggies on the road, it felt as though we were in Lancaster.
The three of us arrived to Pine Creek Cafe around 8:50 a.m., roughly 40-minutes since our departure from Pottsville. Their menu consists of two pages of breakfast items. If you are an avid reader of our blog, you should know by now what Matt ordered. He went with the two-eggs (scrambled), with homefries and a side of sausage patties with toast. Bryan decided to order the “Cowboy Breakfast.” This was hard for him to do considering he is such a big Philadelphia Eagles fan. But alas, this item sounded too good to pass up. The “‘Cowboy Breakfast” consisted of two-eggs your way (he chose over-easy), homefries, pork baked beans, and a choice of meat (he chose bacon) with toast. Mike went with the “Pine Creek Omelette.” This omelette consisted of eggs (we don’t know how many but we would estimate anywhere between 3 to 27), cheese, tomatoes, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, ham, bacon and banana peppers. Yikes. We all ended up splitting a side of smoked sausage because we wanted to try it out.
Establishment: 4/5 – It doesn’t look like much, but it’s a pretty neat little restaurant. There’s a nice private parking lot with plenty of spaces. The interior has a couple different dining rooms, one with booths and one with wooden tables. We sat in the table section. There were some people waiting for a seat by the time we left, which was around 9:45 a.m.
Service: 5/5 – Very friendly and accommodating staff. Our waitress frequently checked up on us throughout our meal. Matt’s food came out first, 11-minutes after ordering. Bryan’s and Mike’s food came out 14-minutes after ordering. Pretty quick.
Appearance: 5/5 – Take a look at our meals. Very large portions! Mike’s omelette was immense. Words or pictures don’t do it justice.
Taste: 5/5 – It tasted as good as it looked. Everything came out piping hot. Mike went as far as claiming it was the “hottest food he’s ever had.” His omelette was steaming all the way up until the last bite. All of the food was fresh and produced locally from the butcher shop and farms around the area. The homefries were freshly cut and Bryan thought they went well with his baked beans. Matt loved the sausage patties and the smoked sausage was one of the best we’ve had in a while. Everything right down to the coffee was spectacular.
Price: 5/5 – Only $24 for the three of us. For the amount of food you get, it’s a steal! Bryan was happy it was his turn to pay this week!
The Pine Creek Cafe in Klingerstown almost earned a perfect score in every category. That’s hard to do. A friendly, family atmosphere with quality food. You can’t beat it. Obviously, we highly recommend that you check this place out. We had a great time this morning on our 40-minute drive through the countryside and it ended up being well worth it. We’ll be back in the future, that’s for sure!
