Luckenbill’s Family Restaurant is located at 18 West Union Street in downtown Schuylkill Haven. This was the location of our 48th breakfast stop in the county. Our crew this morning consisted of Bryan, Kevin, Mike and Tonto. Matt was busy camping this weekend so he couldn’t make it. We’re willing to bet his breakfast wasn’t as good as ours!
We arrived at Luckenbill’s at 9:00 a.m. on this beautiful summer morning. Their breakfast menu is double-sided and features all of your staples. Bryan channeled his inner-Matt and ordered two eggs (he chose over-easy instead of Matt’s trademark scrambled eggs), homefries and sausage links. Mike ordered the “Hungry Man Special” which included three eggs (over-easy), two meats (smoked sausage and bacon), homefries, toast and coffee. The Mighty Tonto decided to go with the “Haven Scrambler” which was simply three eggs scrambled together with homefries, ham, sausage, green peppers and onion topped with shredded cheddar cheese. Kevin, our health nut, went with his usual mushroom and cheese omelette.
Establishment: 3/5 – Nothing to look at from the street. The interior is relatively small, but it does fit a decent amount of tables and chairs. If they were completely packed, it probably would’ve been a bit uncomfortable.
Service: 4.5/5 – It was a 28-minute wait to get our food, which is sort of on the high-side, but our waitress was very nice and accommodating. She frequently asked us if we needed any coffee refills and even engaged in a conversation with Kevin about her tattoos.
Appearance: 5/5 – Our food came out hot and everything looked great! Very large portions of food here!
Taste: 5/5 – Zero complaints from the Breakfast in the Skook crew! The homefries were freshly cut and cooked perfectly for Bryan’s taste – not too crispy, yet not too soft. The sausage links with his meal were the frozen “Brown-n-Serve” ones, but this has become the norm among most diners and restaurants. Mike’s smoked sausage was moist, not dry like some of the others we’ve had in the past. Kevin hammered down his mushroom omelette and seemed to thoroughly enjoy it. The Mighty Tonto – who looked great considering he “socialized” at two block parties last night – finished every bite of his scrambler and had nothing but good things to say. Everything was fresh and delicious!
Price: 5/5 – Our bill totaled just under $29 for the four of us – very cheap! Not to mention, Mike’s “Hungry Man Special” had coffee included with the meal, which is a pretty good deal.
Luckenbill’s Family Restaurant certainly came through for us today. Unless you are a Schuylkill Haven local, chances are you haven’t heard of this place. If you are into breakfasts that are large and cheap, we highly recommend you check this place out; we don’t think you’ll be disappointed! Their breakfasts are served every day besides Sunday beginning at 7:00 a.m.
