Breakfast in the Skook reached the big 5-0! The 50th stop on our breakfast tour brought us to Yocko’s in Minersville. They only serve breakfast on random Sundays, so once we heard they were serving it today, we had to check it out! Our crew this morning consisted of Bryan, Matt, Mike, and the Mighty Tonto. Tonto brought a special guest, Martin, who came all the way from Boston to eat with us!
We arrived at Yocko’s – which is located at 18 North Delaware Avenue in Minersville – around 9:30 a.m. As we entered, a fellow customer recognized us and called us out…we felt like celebrities! The breakfast menu at Yocko’s is a bit different from other establishments we’ve been to. They’re known for their southwest-style dinners, so they have some of that included in their breakfast options.
Bryan decided to order the special-of-the-day, which was a breakfast skillet that included scrambled eggs, choice of meat (he chose sausage), peppers, onions, Mexican cheese and homefries all mixed together in a conglomeration of deliciousness. Matt went his usual two-eggs (scrambled) served with a side of homefries, toast and choice of meat (he also went with sausage…he is the Sausage King, don’t forget!). The Mighty Tonto ordered the “Southwest Steak Burrito,” which consisted of a burrito stuffed with grilled steak, black beans and corn, topped with Yocko’s own southwest sauce and Mexican cheese. Mike and special guest Marty both went with the “Carnitas Eggs Benedict” (spelled “Benedick” on the menu), which consisted of two poached eggs on top of slow-cooked pulled pork and an English muffin, topped with chipotle Hollandaise sauce garnished with pico de gallo and served with Mexican seasoned homefries. Bryan, Mike, Tonto and Marty all ordered Bloody Marys while Matt went with a mimosa…that’s more his style.
Establishment: 4/5 – Nice little restaurant and bar. Parking can be a little dicey depending on what time you go. The exterior isn’t much to look at but the interior was nice and clean. There are two dining rooms that are separated by the bar, with some tables and booths in each.
Service: 2/5 – Let me just say that our waitress Maria was very friendly and accommodating. She frequently refilled our coffees and checked up on us throughout our wait. Speaking of the wait…it ended up being a whopping 53-minutes to receive our food. This is by far the longest wait we’ve had, surpassing last week’s by 14-minutes. Now, we are taking into consideration that Yocko’s does not serve breakfast very often and we do not know how many people were making the food in the back, so take this score for what its worth. The big question is “Was the wait worth it?” It certainly was for Tonto, who sucked down three Bloody Marys during the time. It was 5 o’clock somewhere…
Appearance: 4.5/5 – When everything finally came out it was steaming and looked absolutely delicious! Bryan’s meal was served on a black iron skillet and it was piping hot! We deducted a half-point because the cream Marty used in his coffee was curdled; this happens from time-to-time so it’s not too big of a deal.
Taste: 5/5 – Awesome! Everything was really fresh – including the peppers in Bryan’s skillet. Mike and Marty both enjoyed their “Benedick”. The pulled pork had a sweet taste and the homefries were delicious. Tonto liked his Southwest Burrito; you can tell the steak was fresh and cooked perfectly. Matt also seemed to enjoy his meal while sipping on his mimosa. The sausage was split in half to ensure consistent cooking. No complaints from us!
Bloody Mary: 3/5 – The Bloody Marys were about average. They could’ve been a little spicier for our tastes. They seemed to have a generous amount of alcohol in them – we thought we were going to have to carry Tonto out on our shoulders!

Price: 4/5 – Not too bad – a little over $50 for the five of us (not including the drinks). The mimosa and Bloody Marys were $6 each. For the amount of food we received with our meal, the price was pretty good.
Okay, so back to the question “Was the wait worth it?” I’d say yes if you don’t have any plans and want to sip on a drink before your meal. The food is certainly high quality. This isn’t boring diner food – this is top-notch cuisine. Yocko’s has a lot of potential to be a very good breakfast establishment if they served it more often (their dinners are already very good). Their breakfast menu is diverse and different from other establishments in our area, making it a place you should definitely try. Make sure you check out their Facebook page to find out when they will be serving breakfast next.
Wow, 50 breakfast spots down and still quite a bit to go. There are so many options in our county! If you know of any restaurants that we haven’t hit yet, let us know and we will check it out! As always, thanks for sharing our posts and reading our blog!
