The Red Lion Cafe started serving their breakfast once again after a brief hiatus. Of course, our Breakfast in the Skook crew decided to see how it was. We had a full crew today, with Bryan, Matt, Mike and Tonto all making the trip to Pine Grove.

The breakfast menu at Red Lion is double-sided and includes some unique items. One of their daily specials was the “Bacon Cheeseburger Omelette”, which consisted of eggs, cheese, ground beef, and bacon. The Mighty Tonto decided to give this a try. Bryan decided to order the “Barnyard Hash”, which is two eggs scrambled, mixed with hash browns, bacon, ham and sausage. It is served with a side of hot sauce and homemade toast. Matt ordered his usual two-eggs (scrambled), with homefries and a side of sausage links. Mike went with the “Skillet Breakfast”, which is a two-egg omelette topped with hash browns, creamed chipped beef and American cheese. It was also served with homemade toast.

Establishment: 5/5 – The Red Lion has a large parking lot across the road. The interior is dimly lit with plenty of seating. There are a couple of dining rooms with some seating at the counter. Everything seemed very clean inside.

Service: 5/5 – Very fast service! It only took us 8-minutes to receive our food after ordering! Our waitress left the coffee carafe at our table so we can refill our own drinks. No complaints about the service whatsoever.

Appearance: 5/5 – Our portions were large and hot! Everything looked great! Even the coffee mugs were large. As you all know by now, when it comes to coffee mugs, size does matter!

Taste: 4/5 – The homemade toast was delicious and received high marks from all members of our crew. Our food was fresh, especially the homefries. They were thick-cut potatoes that were very filling. The eggs were done perfectly and the smoked sausage in Bryan’s mish-mash tasted awesome. The only complaint had to do with the coffee, which tasted a little weak.

Price: 2.5/5 – Our bill ended up totaling close to $41 for the four of us. This was a tad pricier than our average breakfast bill.

Well, the Red Lion certainly came through for us today. With quick service and large portions, you can’t go wrong. It makes us wonder why they stopped serving their breakfast to begin with. With Deb’s Restaurant right down the road, residents in the Pine Grove area now have two really good breakfast spots they can choose from. The Friedensburg Country Restaurant is there too, but we wouldn’t choose that over Deb’s or the Red Lion. The Red Lion Cafe is located at 697 Deturksville Road in Pine Grove.
