For the past couple of months, Mike’s dad has been suggesting we try the breakfast served at the Pine Grove V.F.W. This morning, we finally decided to check it out, and *SPOILER ALERT* boy were we glad! Today’s crew consisted of Bryan, Mike, Tonto and…..Kevin! Yes, Kevin was back with us today. He flew in from Florida just so he could eat breakfast with the guys again.

Our foursome arrived at the V.F.W. a little before 9 a.m. The crowd wasn’t very large, but more people filled in as we ate. The breakfast menu here consists of your usual eggs, bacon, sausage; they also have some other items like chicken fried steak, waffles, etc. It’s a pretty diverse menu and not overly large. Bryan ordered the “Eggs in a Nest”, which is two over-easy eggs with sliced cheese served inside a bed of hashbrowns. He also orded the chicken fried steak that was served with Sawmill gravy. Mike ended up getting the chipped beef meal served over hashbrowns with a side of bacon. The Mighty Tonto wound up ordering the “Honkey Eggs & Toast” meal, which is a mish-mash of three eggs, cheese, onions, mushrooms, green peppers, ham and homefries. He ordered a side of smoked sausage to go along with it. Kevin, our health nut, ordered the veggie omelette which was stuffed with mushrooms, peppers, onions, tomatoes and cheese.

Breakfast Menu

Establishment: 2.5/5 – The parking lot is plenty big and the exterior looks nice with its brick facade. The interior consisted of two rooms – a bar and a dining room. The bar was a bit smoky and dimly lit. The dining room had more lighting and consisted of about 12-15 tables. It isn’t a bad establishment, but it’s not great either.

Service: 4/5 – Our waitress was very nice and accommodating. The coffee was “serve yourself” which was nice because we got to get up and pour our own whenever we felt like it. Bryan’s and Mike’s meals were served after a 26-minute wait, which isn’t bad. Tonto’s and Kevin’s meals came out five minutes later, so we decided to deduct one point for the gap.

Appearance: 5/5 – Looks awesome! The plates were filled with food and everything was hot when it arrived at our table. We even liked the coffee mugs which had a shout out to our Veterans written on them.

Taste: 5/5 – The food was as good as it looked! Kevin loved his omelette and the fact that it was stuffed full of tomatoes. The bacon that came with Mike’s meal was smoky and had lots of flavor. The smoked sausage that Tonto ordered had a nice flavor to it as well and wasn’t too dry. Bryan thought his meal was one of the best breakfasts he’s had in weeks. The eggs/cheese mixed in with his hashbrowns tasted amazing and the Sawmill gravy that smothered the chicken fried steak was to die for. We had zero complaints about the taste.

Price: 5/5 – Our bill totaled just under $35 for the four of us. That included all of our meals, side orders and coffee. Not too shabby!

As you can probably tell by our scores, we highly recommend coming to the Pine Grove V.F.W. for breakfast. Our crew was highly impressed and will definitely come back in the future. The establishment is located at 140 S. Tulpehocken Street (the main street) in Pine Grove, next to the Turkey Hill. They serve their breakfasts every Saturday and Sunday beginning at 7 a.m. You won’t regret your decision and will leave with a full belly!
