Never heard of the 123 Cafe in Mahanoy? Neither did we until recently. This morning, it was the site of Breakfast in the Skook’s most recent outing. Our crew this morning consisted of Bryan, Matt, Mike and Kevin. Yes, Kevin, our most loyal and recurring guest, was back for another adventure.
We arrived at 123 Cafe, which is located at 123 East Centre Street in Mahanoy City, at 8:30 a.m. The place was pretty full with customers by the time we got there. After taking a peek at the breakfast menu, Bryan decided to order the two-egg meal (over-easy), with homefries and a sausage patty. Matt also ordered two-eggs but had them scrambled, with homefries and a sausage link. Mike went with the “Meat Lovers & Cheese Omelette,” which consists of bacon, sausage and ham. Kevin ordered the “Veggie Omelette,” which included cheese, tomatoes and spinach.

Establishment: 4/5 – The cafe is located on the main street of Mahanoy City. Parking is on the street, but it wasn’t hard to find this morning. The interior was pretty clean and wasn’t too small. There were 7-8 tables inside for seating and Halloween decorations accented the walls. It was a neat little restaurant.
Service: 5/5 – Our waitress was very friendly and was quick to refill our disappearing coffees. The wait time for our food was only 14-minutes, so the service was fast. No complaints here!
Appearance: 5/5 – When our meals came out, we were all pleasantly surprised with the amount of food we received. Everything was hot and very appetizing. There would be no leaving hungry for us this morning!
Taste: 4/5 – It was actually pretty darn good. Mike scarfed down his meat-filled omelette with ease while Kevin was forced to take home a doggy bag. Bryan and Matt both enjoyed their different types of sausage. Everything right down to the coffee exceeded our expectations.
Price: 5/5 – Our bill totaled just under $32, which is not a bad price at all for four people. With the amount of food you receive, this is a bargain!
Well, it is safe to say that the 123 Cafe in Mahanoy City does not get the publicity or attention it deserves. We were pleasantly surprised with our experience this morning and hope that some of our readers check it out…you won’t be disappointed!
