Humane Fire Co.

The Humane Fire Company in Pottsville held their monthly breakfast this morning, so the Breakfast in the Skook crew decided to give it a taste test. Today’s diners consisted of Bryan, Matt, Mike, and Tonto.

We arrived at the Humane around 8:30 a.m. and there was already a good crowd. Their breakfast is a buffet and you pay your $9 entrance fee at the door. The menu consists of scrambled eggs, homefries, hashbrowns, bacon, sausage, ham, pancakes, French Toast and creamed chipped beef.

Establishment: 3/5 – Decent size fire house, but not the biggest. Everything was pretty clean inside the hall. There was a large crowd, which made parking an issue.

Service: 5/5 – It was a serve yourself buffet, so no service was needed. The volunteers were pretty quick in refilling any food items that ran out. There was no creamer available for the coffee, though; milk was the only option.

Appearance: 3/5 – Everything looked good and edible. The food was nice and hot for a buffet.

Taste: 3.5/5 – Pretty good. The homefries were freshly made and tasted delicious. The bacon was a little burnt, but wasn’t bad. All of our crew enjoyed the sausage, especially Tonto. He was gushing over the sausage.

Price: 5/5 – $9 isn’t bad for an all-you-can-eat buffet.

Overall, the Humane Fire Company provides a decent breakfast buffet every third Sunday of the month. When comparing it to other buffets, we still prefer Amvets in Pottsville, but this provides a good option. Not to mention, the proceeds benefit a local fire company, which is a good thing!
