A rainy day couldn’t keep the Breakfast in the Skook crew away!
On this Halloween weekend, Breakfast in the Skook finally decided to try Pressed Coffee & Books, which is located at 123 Mahantongo Street in Pottsville. It would turn out to be a crepe-y morning!
Today’s ghastly crew consisted of Bryan, Matt and Mike. After telling the group he would be there, Tonto pulled off a great impression of a ghost; he was nowhere to be seen or heard of. Kudos to Matt, who managed to roll out of bed after a long night of adult trick-or-treating and show up as an actual human zombie.
The breakfast menu at Pressed mainly consists of crepes. After checking out their menu, Bryan decided to order the Pumpkin Roll Crepe, which was a seasonal item. He also bought a Pumpkin Spiced Latte to wash it down. Mike went with a regular drip coffee and the Kielbasy Crepe, which included kielbasy, cheese, and a special sauce. Matt, who was a bit under the weather, only ordered a regular drip coffee. Tonto (the ghost) didn’t order anything because he never showed up…or did he?

Establishment: 4/5 – A nice little restaurant that sits on the corner of a fairly busy Mahantongo Street. The interior is very clean and there are some tables and booths for seating. Each booth has some books on a shelf behind it in case you want to do some light or heavy reading. There is also a long hallway in the back of the café lined with books. We decided to just sit and enjoy each other’s company. Matt checked out the bathroom at one point during our visit, but we didn’t hear back about how it was in there. A point was taken off because of the lack of parking. Just a few spots in front of the establishment and everything was on-street parking.

Service: 5/5 – The process is that you order your food and drinks at the counter and wait for your name to be called. Our food and coffees didn’t take long to make, considering they only had two employees working behind the counter. No complaints here.
Food Appearance: 5/5 – Everything was presented professionally. The crepes were wrapped in paper and cardboard holders so you didn’t get grease or food on your hands. Bryan’s latte had a nice amount of froth at the top with an added design. These baristas are the real deal.
Matt’s Appearance: 1/5 – Bloodshot eyes really sold the zombie look.
Tonto’s Appearance: 0/5

Taste: 4/5 – Everything tasted good. Bryan’s pumpkin roll crepe tasted just like the dessert. Mike enjoyed his kielbasy crepe, but his only complaint was that the cheese wasn’t completely melted. Our drinks were also delicious. Matt seemed to enjoy his coffee as well, although it was hard to tell in between his moans and groans.
Price: 2.5/5 – Crepes were $5.95 each and coffee was $2.75 for a 16 ounce cup. For all three of our orders, we paid $22. Even though the coffee was on the expensive side, you definitely get what you pay for. This isn’t Dunkin’ coffee they are selling (no offense to you DD fans). A big thank you to Matt who showed up and paid for Bryan and Mike’s meals.
All in all, we had a good time this morning at Pressed Coffee & Books (well, Bryan and Mike did). Although it’s not a place that will satisfy a big appetite, it has a laid back atmosphere that makes it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a coffee on a Saturday or Sunday morning.
