The boys ventured out to the Haven Diner – a restaurant that has changed ownership and rebranded multiple times in the past. It was most recently called the Long Run Diner and is now known just simply as the Haven Diner. Sunday was Breakfast in the Skook’s first visit to this establishment and it didn’t disappoint!
Bryan, Kevin, Matt and Mike met at the diner and sat in one of the many booths. The Haven Diner’s seating area is L-shaped with plenty of tables/booths. One would imagine it would be difficult to go there and wait for a seat. The age of the building shows in its many grease stains on the ceiling, but we felt it only added to the charm. Painted red brick accented the interior which was also a nice touch. 3.5/5 was our rating for establishment.

The menu is lengthy with plenty of options for even the pickiest of eaters. It was hard to settle on one option. Bryan ended up ordering the Creamed Chipped Beef over toast with homefries and onions. The onions with homefries were an extra fifty cents. Kevin got a cheese omelette with homefries. It was nice to see a diner that includes homefries with the omelette as a meal – most places require you to order homefries on the side. Matt ordered the 222 special which included two pieces of French toast (pancakes were an option), two eggs any style, two slices of bacon or sausage, and toast. Mike ended up getting the Eggs Benedict with homefries.

It was a pretty quick wait for our food – 13 minutes to be exact. Our waitress was very cordial and asked us for coffee refills regularly. The diner seemed to be fully staffed with many waitresses working this Sunday morning, which was good to see. We scored the service a 5/5.
The food came out hot and fresh. Each of our meals looked great. We managed to take a picture of our meals before digging in. We rated food appearance a 5/5.

Not much to complain about as far as taste goes. Bryan thought his Creamed Chipped Beef had a little too much cream and not enough chipped beef. The caramelized onions in the homefries tasted great and added an extra layer of flavor to the potatoes. The rest of the meals were pretty much standard fare as far as diner food goes. 4/5 for taste.
The price for all four of our meals totaled $49.23 which isn’t bad considering the Pottsville Diner charged us $44 for only three full meals. Comparing those two places, we definitely recommend the Haven Diner for the price. The Haven Diner is located at the intersection of Long Run Road and Route 183 in Schuylkill Haven. They are open daily from 6 a.m. – 9 p.m.
