The Coney Island Restaurant in Pottsville is one of the most famous places to eat in the county. This morning, our crew (sans Tonto) decided to check out what they had to serve for breakfast. We had our choice to sit on the restaurant side or the bar side. We chose the latter. The restaurant side had a decent amount of seating, while the bar side had some tables and booths that were near the bar. They also have seating outside on the deck when the weather permits.

We ordered our breakfast from the main counter located at the entrance of the restaurant. Bryan ordered the French Toast with a side of sausage. Matt went with the two-eggs (scrambled) with homefries, a side of meat (sausage), and toast. Mike ordered the Western Omelette, which included ham, cheese, peppers, and onions. Bryan and Mike also decided to try out their Bloody Mary. Matt, being the anti-tomato juice fan that he is, wanted to taste their “Purple People Eater” cocktail. Who knows what the hell is in that drink, but you can check out the photo below, near the end of our blog.

Establishment: 3/5 – Not a bad place to eat. There is a decent amount of seating when you take into account the restaurant and bar area. The restaurant side has a greasy feel to it. The bar side is okay, but you can smoke at the bar, which deducts some points from the overall rating. Parking is not an issue at Coney Island.

Service: 4/5 – We only waited 13-minutes for our food. The service staff delivered our food to our table in the bar section of the restaurant. The bartender consistently asked us if we needed anything throughout the duration of our meal.

Appearance: 3/5 – Our meals didn’t look too bad. The meals were served on styrofoam plates with plastic silverware. We don’t mind this, as long as the food is tasty!

Taste: 3/5 – Our food was average at best. Bryan’s French Toast was good, but nothing to write home about. Mike enjoyed the omelette, but thought the vegetables were of the frozen variety. Matt thought his food was “barely acceptable”. You could tell that their homefries were frozen and not freshly cut potatoes. On the plus side, Mike enjoyed the hot sauce that was supplied, and Bryan enjoyed their sausage patty (he thought it was similar to the sausage patty served at McDonald’s).

Price: 5/5 – Very cheap. You cannot go wrong at Coney Island when it comes to price. Just take a look at these prices…

Our meal for the three of us only cost roughly $14. Not bad at all!

Bloody Mary: 3/5 – Eh. Nothing too special here. Mike and Bryan both thought their drink had a good amount of alcohol in it, but was a little watery near the end. It wasn’t as tasty as the Bloody Mary served at Mountain Valley.  Matt thought his “Purple People Eater” (which was actually blue) tasted like a blue Freeze-E pop. Only one-and-done for both drinks.

Purple People Eater & Bloody Mary

All in all, Coney Island’s breakfast provides a good, solid base for a day of indulging in adult beverages. It is very cheap, so don’t expect a first-class, quality meal. If you live in the Pottsville area and don’t feel like traveling for breakfast, we can recommend Coney Island for a decent and cheap meal.
