Skipper Dippers Dairy Bar & Grill is located off Route 309 in Hometown. They are known for their ice cream, but today our crew decided to see what was on the menu for breakfast. The four of us (Bryan, Matt, Mike, Kevin…no Tonto again!) arrived around 9 a.m. on this chilly St. Patrick’s Day morning to a completely empty restaurant. I guess the rest of the county was already out getting their drink on. Matt was fired up and ready to go with his festive green unicorn t-shirt (picture at the bottom of the page).

When we entered the restaurant, the waitress asked us if we were there to eat breakfast. Oh, boy. I guess this was a sign of things to come. The breakfast menu here isn’t the most extensive. They have your usual breakfast foods, nothing extraordinary.  Matt and Mike both ordered the two-eggs platter; Matt chose the scrambled eggs with sausage while Mike went with over-easy eggs and bacon. Both meals came with homefries. Bryan ordered the French Toast with a side of bacon, and Kevin ordered their Veggie Omelette. The omelette consisted of cheese, mushrooms, onions, red and green peppers, and broccoli.

Establishment: 5/5 – Neat little restaurant off a fairly busy road. It looks like your typical ice cream shop. There’s plenty of parking – especially today since we were practically the only customers there! The interior was clean and had a reasonable amount of seating (7 booths and 7 tables). They also had some good music playing in the background! Not too bad.

Service: 2/5 – Okay, here we go. First of all, I’d like to point out that our waitress was very nice and friendly – we had no issues there. We did, however, wait 28-minutes to receive our food. This seemed to be a rather lengthy wait considering, once again, we were the only customers there! There were two more customers that came in after us, but it wasn’t until roughly ten minutes after we had already ordered. Once we did receive our food, Kevin noticed that his omelette wasn’t the one he had ordered. They had to take it back. There also wasn’t any jelly for our toast at the table, so Kevin had to go searching for some.

Appearance: 3/5 – Our food looked pretty good – except for the bacon – which looked like it had been microwaved. The coffee mugs were larger than average, which meant we required less refills.

Taste: 2/5 – It wasn’t great. Bryan’s French Toast was lukewarm at best and his microwaved bacon was cold and slimy. The eggs and omelette weren’t anything to sneeze about either. Matt and Mike weren’t fans of their homefries and thought they were tasteless. Kevin’s hashbrowns were as solid as a brick. He said that they were so hard, they were probably giving their dentist some good business. The only thing that was really good was their coffee, which had a strong, robust flavor.

Price: 5/5 – Pretty cheap, so that helped a little.

Overall, Skipper Dippers definitely came up short this morning. We could’ve just caught them on a bad day, so maybe if we went another time it would be better. Although the food was cheap, it just wasn’t worth the long wait. We might go back to try their ice cream at some point, but I think it’s safe to say we won’t be eating breakfast there again any time soon.

We hope everyone enjoys their St. Patrick’s Day weekend and stays safe! Here’s a picture of Matt’s shirt to put you in the festive spirit!

I stopped here ,while working nearby, to quick stop get a breakfast sandwich to eat on the road. And I actually had to clock out because of how long it took . 15-20 minutes. Someone who ordered wings after me got them before my sandwich. I’m sure ice cream is okay to get here, just not food! I haven’t been back since!
